Medical Wigs & Cranial Prosthetics
Restoring your confidence, one strand at a time
Losing your hair from cancer treatment, alopecia, or another medical condition is more than a physical change — it’s emotional. At HOUS of WIGS, we understand that you’re not just looking for “a wig.” You’re looking for something that feels natural, secure, and truly you.
Our licensed professionals are here to guide you through every step, from confirming your coverage to walking out with a cranial prosthesis that restores your confidence. In many cases, your medical wig may be partially or fully covered by your health insurance.

step 1
CONFIRM YOUR COVERAGE WITH YOUR PROVIDER
Before choosing your cranial prosthesis, call your insurance provider to ask about coverage for a Cranial Prosthesis(never say “wig” — most insurers consider that cosmetic).
Key questions to ask:
- Do you cover cranial prostheses?
- How much will my plan cover?
- What wording should be on the prescription?
- What HCPCS code do you require on the invoice?
Some insurance providers that have offered coverage:
Aetna, Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Humana, TriCare

step 2
Get Your Prescription
If you have a medical diagnosis related to hair loss, visit your doctor to obtain:
- A prescription for a cranial prosthesis.
- Your medical diagnosis documentation.
Think of us as your hair pharmacy — we’ll “fill” your prescription. After your order is placed, we’ll create an invoice with all necessary details and codes for your insurance claim.

step 3
Choose Your Wig with HOUS of WIGS
Once you know your coverage and have your prescription, it’s time to focus on you.
Book a private consultation in our Dallas salon or virtually. We’ll:
- Help you select the perfect fit, style, and color.
- Ensure maximum comfort and a secure, natural look.
- Customize your cranial prosthesis so it suits your lifestyle and restores your confidence.
This step is about more than hair — it’s about making you feel comfortable, beautiful, and ready to face the world on your terms.

step 4
Purchase Your Wig & File Your Claim
Once you’ve chosen your cranial prosthesis, you’ll purchase it from HOUS of WIGS.
After payment, we will provide you with a specialized paid invoice — different from your sales receipt — that includes:
- Correct medical terminology.
- Required HCPCS coding.
- HOUS of WIGS’ business details (like a pharmacy invoice).
To file your claim, submit:
- Your doctor’s prescription.
- Your specialized paid invoice from HOUS of WIGS.
- Your completed insurance claim form (plus DME claim form, if required).
WAYS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR CLAIM
These steps can improve your chances of full or partial reimbursement:
- Ask your doctor to include a letter explaining your hair loss and its emotional effects.
- Have them include their NPI code on your diagnosis.
- Provide a signed claim form from your doctor.
- Write your own letter about how hair loss has impacted your life.
- Include photos showing your hair loss.
- Ask a friend, family member, or employer to share how important having hair is for you.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CLAIM IS DENIED
You still have options:
Appeal the decision:
- Double-check your benefits and coverage terms.
- Ask if your insurer uses different terminology for cranial prosthesis.
- Request a review by a medical review board.
- Get a written explanation of the denial.
- Contact the claims department supervisor in writing.
Apply for financial assistance:
- American Cancer Society: Grants up to $75 for cranial prostheses (apply before purchase).
- National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF): The Ascot Fund offers pre-purchase financial assistance for those with alopecia areata.
